smooth ride, spacious interior, excellent noise insulation, economical engine
multimedia lags, paintwork is weak, original parts are overpriced
I've owned a 2020 Hyundai Sonata with a 2.5 naturally aspirated engine, 180 horsepower, and a six-speed automatic. I bought it new from the dealership at the end of 2020, and now it has just over 100,000 kilometers on it. I took my time choosing the car meticulously, considering the Camry, Accord, even the Passat, but settled on the Sonata—the balance of price, features, and real comfort was just right.
Let's start with the ride. The suspension is perfectly balanced: not too soft, but not rigid like on European cars. It soaks up small bumps effortlessly, and on the highway, it tracks straight as an arrow. At 140-150 km/h, stability is excellent, no body roll to speak of, the steering is informative, though the electric power assist feels a bit artificial.
The engine is straightforward, no turbo or fancy extras, runs smooth without any vibrations. Doesn't burn oil, level stays steady between services. Average fuel consumption is 8.2 liters per 100 km, highway around 6.5. The transmission is competent, shifts are smooth without jerks, kickdown engages a touch slowly but predictably.
The interior is roomy, especially in the back—an adult can ride 500 km without getting tired. Seats are comfortable, heating and ventilation work like clockwork. Materials are good quality, but the glossy finish on the center panel gets micro-cracks quickly, and the paint is indeed delicate—chips appear even from small pebbles.
Electronics act up occasionally: the multimedia froze a couple of times, Android Auto dropped connection, though I keep updates current. But climate control, cruise, and assists—all work reliably, no surprises.
Overall, the Sonata isn't about wow-factor; it's about confidence and predictability. It's for those who appreciate order in everything: a smooth engine, quiet cabin, intuitive controls. Not for show, but for folks who value comfort, logic, and calm at the wheel.
