McMurtry Spéirling PURE: Electric Fan Car Heads to Limited Production

British company McMurtry Automotive has announced the start of series production for the single-seater electric hypercar Spéirling PURE.

The model has already established its reputation with a record run on the Goodwood hill and its distinctive aerodynamic system featuring active fans. The project is now moving from demonstration phase to actual customer deliveries, scheduled to begin this summer. A total of 100 units are planned for production.

New Production Facility

Vehicle assembly will take place at a new 2,700-square-meter facility in Gloucestershire. The previous site next to Swinhay House will continue to serve as the research and engineering center. This separation of production and development processes also prepares the company for future models.

Pricing for the Spéirling PURE starts at approximately $1,360,000. This figure excludes optional equipment and service packages, which typically raise the final cost. The limited production run of 100 vehicles emphasizes the exclusive character of the project.

Technical Concept

The Spéirling PURE is a fully electric single-seater with enclosed wheels and a minimalist layout. Its powertrain features two electric motors on the rear axle producing a combined output of around 1,000 horsepower. Energy is stored in a 60 kWh battery pack, which in the production version is approximately 15% lighter than the early prototypes.

Curb weight is under 1,000 kilograms — an uncommon achievement for an electric vehicle. The low mass combined with high power yields strong performance:

  • 0-100 km/h acceleration — around 1.5 seconds,
  • top speed — over 300 km/h.

Active Downforce System

The defining feature remains the Downforce on Demand system. Two high-speed fans, capable of reaching 23,000 rpm, are positioned in the center of the bodywork. They generate a vacuum beneath the floor, effectively pressing the car to the track surface.

The principle was employed in motorsport in the late 1970s before being outlawed by regulations. In its contemporary form it provides exceptional levels of grip, contributing to the model’s record at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Limitations of the Electric Platform

Despite its impressive specifications, the car is primarily intended for short sessions and time-attack events. Under sustained GT3-level driving intensity, the energy reserve can be exhausted in roughly 20 minutes, even with the optional larger 100 kWh battery.

The model is road-legal, yet the single-seater configuration and extreme aerodynamics render everyday practicality a secondary consideration.
