Our Take
The Maverick shines with its practicality: the bed is highly adaptable for hauling, the cabin offers plenty of clever storage, and the styling holds its own (sorry, Hyundai). There's a lot of plastic inside, but it's colorful and textured—we even called the interior "fun and upbeat." With the updates, the cabin feels even more premium.
On the road, the Maverick handles nimbly and is enjoyable to drive, though it can feel short on grunt during off-road ventures—exactly where the hybrid AWD could use a bit more power. If fuel savings are a priority, the hybrid is the way to go.
Drawbacks
- Towing and payload capacities lag behind rivals (up to about 2,000 lbs standard, 4,000 lbs with the 4K Tow Package; payload around 1,500 lbs, lower on Tremor at ~1,140 lbs).
- Only one cab and bed configuration available (standard for the segment).

Tech and Efficiency
The hybrid remains the base setup: 191 hp and 155 lb-ft + CVT. Fuel economy—up to 42 mpg city / 35 mpg highway (FWD), and around 40 mpg city / 34 mpg highway (AWD).
The 2.0-liter EcoBoost delivers 250 hp and 277 lb-ft, paired with an 8-speed automatic and AWD. 0-60 mph in about 6.5 seconds, fuel economy around 22 mpg city / 30 mpg highway.

Fun Fact
Did you know compact pickups exploded in popularity in the U.S. back in the 1980s thanks to their affordability and efficiency? They faded away in the early 2000s as bigger trucks took over, but the Maverick's return pays homage to those classics—now with cutting-edge tech.
