The specialists at Irmscher, known for their longstanding work on classic Opel models, have now turned their attention to the Leapmotor C10. This development reflects the growing integration of Chinese vehicles into the European market.

Chinese Newcomer with Significant Ambitions

Leapmotor is a young brand, founded less than a decade ago. Nevertheless, it has achieved annual sales approaching 300,000 vehicles. The Stellantis Group, owner of Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Jeep and other marques, recently acquired a 20% stake in the company to support its European expansion. The cooperation with Irmscher represents an early outcome of this strategy.

Irmscher: From Opel to Chinese Electric Vehicles

Established in 1968, Irmscher has built its reputation through modifications to Opel models and later Peugeot and Kia vehicles. The Leapmotor project marks new territory as the first official collaboration between the German tuner and a Chinese manufacturer. The modified vehicles will be offered through Leapmotor dealerships.

Changes and Pricing

In Europe, the Leapmotor C10 ProMax AWD is priced from approximately €44,900. The Irmscher version adds roughly €5,000 to the cost. The powertrain remains unchanged, featuring dual electric motors delivering 598 hp in an all-wheel-drive configuration paired with an 81.9 kWh battery. Modifications include revised suspension tuning, new alloy wheels, an enlarged rear spoiler and red accent details. The focus is on visual appeal and refinement rather than performance enhancement.

Brand Image and Market Perception

Visually, the vehicle no longer prominently displays Chinese origins: the Leapmotor logo has been removed from the hood, with branding retained only at the rear. This adjustment may help alleviate consumer reservations toward Chinese brands in Europe, leveraging the established reputation of the German tuner.

Rebadging Strategy or Broader Partnership?

The Irmscher project appears to be part of a larger Stellantis initiative. Reports indicate that Opel may introduce rebadged Leapmotor electric vehicles with modified front-end styling and other German design elements. The B10 model, for instance, could emerge as a new Opel variant. This approach offers a more economical path to electrification than developing new platforms independently.

The alliance combines Chinese technological capabilities with German brand recognition and market positioning. It provides Leapmotor with improved European market access, offers Irmscher new opportunities, and allows Stellantis to expand its electric vehicle lineup efficiently.

The outcome will depend on the extent of technical integration alongside branding efforts. Irmscher has a proven track record in vehicle modification, suggesting potential for deeper engineering contributions in future projects.
