Ram Rampage: American Pickup Style for European Roads

While some manufacturers are reducing their pickup truck presence in Europe, Stellantis is launching the Ram Rampage model on the continent.

This new model offers a fresh interpretation of the European pickup truck, blending American design with more practical dimensions for the market.

Proportion Over Size

European buyers have long appreciated powerful American pickup trucks. However, challenges such as narrow streets and parking constraints have limited their adoption. The Ram Rampage aims to address this by being shorter and more compact than larger models like the Ram 1500, while retaining substantial towing capability for trailers, boats and caravans.

The vehicle length is just over five meters, with a wheelbase of approximately three meters. While this approaches the upper limit for European use, the Rampage maintains balanced proportions. It avoids excessive size while preserving the rugged character and muscular American styling.

Powertrain Options

Developed and produced in Brazil, the Rampage has been available there since 2023 with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and two diesel variants (2.0 and 2.2 liters). All versions are equipped with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine options for Europe have not been finalized, but adaptation to local emissions standards is expected. A hybrid powertrain may also be offered.

Models like the Rampage appeal through a combination of distinctive styling and utility. It provides an alternative for buyers who prefer something more characterful than a standard crossover.

Pricing and Segment Positioning

Official European pricing has not been announced. Based on the South American market, the starting price is expected to range from €35,000 to €40,000. This positions the vehicle competitively in its class, given the standard all-wheel drive, substantial ground clearance and spacious interior.

Competitors including the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok are already established in the segment, although sales volumes have been moderate. The Rampage may offer an interesting balance between American pickup heritage and European requirements.

Prospects in the European Market

The success of the Ram Rampage will depend on its ability to deliver both capability and efficiency. With competitive fuel consumption around 8 liters per 100 km combined with modern features, the model could appeal to buyers seeking distinctive and practical vehicles.

Stellantis chose an equestrian exhibition in Verona for the European debut instead of a traditional auto show. The Ram Rampage's robust design may attract customers who value a strong presence on the road.

The vehicle combines practical utility suitable for towing and transport with design elements appropriate for urban use.
